Neither the UK nor the UN delivers aid to the Assad regime.</p><p>Since 2012, the UK has allocated £835 million to support vulnerable people inside Syria including in besieged areas such as Eastern Ghouta, where DFID’s humanitarian partners are on the ground providing life-saving food, protection, and healthcare where access allows. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 19/12/2017 answer text <p>Aid delivered by road by trusted humanitarian partners (including the UN) is by far the most effective way to meet needs in Syria and to ensure that it reaches those most in need. Airdrops are high risk and not capable of delivering many of the types of aid on a scale that could meet key needs (e.g. safe drinking water, shelter, health support). Crucially, the consent is needed of those who control the airspace and those on the ground that could threaten aircraft. We are leading the way by placing its key principles – such as greater transparency and more effective prioritisation of aid – at the heart of our own response, and encouraging others to do the same. At the 2016 London Syria conference, we pushed for a shift to more multi-year financing to enable better long-term planning, and helped secure pledges of $6.1 billion. We helped launch UNICEF’s No Lost Generation Initiative, which provides education, protection, and mental health support for children affected by the Syria crisis. Food and medical supplies are delivered into this area cross-border from Jordan and are assessed to be meeting priority needs. Russia, Turkey and Iran have also declared ‘de-escalation zones’ in Idlib, Eastern Ghouta and Northern Homs. Food and medical supplies enter Idlib cross-border from Turkey, but the Assad regime continues to severely restrict aid going into the other two zones.
