answer text <p>The UK is a strong advocate for the achievement of universal health coverage to ensure child survival, through strengthening health systems. DFID provides technical assistance and financial support directly to countries, including Commonwealth governments. The UK invests around £1 billion per year through bilateral aid programmes in reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health, and our support to Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, has contributed to the safe vaccination of over 700 million children.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The UK played a key role in creating a set of Global Goals that are universal and inclusive and is committed to championing the goals. Delivering Global Goal 3, to “ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all”, will instruct the health support we provide, with priority given to ensuring that poorer, harder to reach populations achieve better access to good quality essential services. DFID’s ongoing Bilateral Aid Review (BAR) and Multilateral Aid Review (MAR) will ensure we allocate our budget in the right places and in the right way, based on solid evidence, to contribute to the delivery of the Global Goals and to achieve our manifesto commitments.</p> more like this

answer text <p>We are currently in discussions with the World Health Organisation (WHO) regarding who will represent the UK at the meeting of the World Health Organisation's Consultative Expert Working Group in March 2016.</p><p>The UK Government priority is to see a Pooled Fund for Research and Development established with support from WHO Member States, especially those that have not provided funding for this type of work. The UK Government supports systems that separate the market incentives to produce a drug or vaccine from the Research &amp; Development process, prioritise public health need over profit and work in partnership with a wide range of different organisations, covering the public, private and philanthropic sectors. The UK is the second largest government supporter of the development of new products through product development partnerships, which prioritise need over profit.</p> more like this

answer text <p>DFID will continue to invest in health and support countries to meet SDG goal 3 and its universal health coverage target, guided by the Government’s International Development manifesto commitments. These include to: save 1.4m children’s lives by 2020, by immunising 76m children against killer diseases; lead a major new global programme to accelerate the development of vaccines and drugs to eliminate the world’s deadliest infectious diseases, while investing to save lives from malaria and working to end preventable child and maternal deaths; and work to achieve equitable access to family planning. Our commitments to improve nutrition for at least 50m people, to help at least 60m people get access to clean water and sanitation, to end FGM and to support education, will also contribute.</p> more like this
