The Secretary of State for International Development recently returned from Bangladesh
where she met the UN Resident Coordinator, IOM’s Chief of Mission, UNHCR’s Emergency
Coordinator and representatives from other UN agencies and NGOs to discuss coordination
and the next phase of the response. DFID funds the IOM-managed Inter-Sector Coordination
Group (ISCG) in Cox’s Bazar. At the start of the crisis DFID convened a donor group
that has been meeting weekly to discuss coordination of aid flows. DFID will be part
of a new Senior Executive Group of UN, NGO and donor leads in Dhaka to improve coordination
with the field. DFID has made clear to UN and NGO partners that they should work with
the existing coordination groups, align with the humanitarian response plan, and comply
with Bangladesh regulations.
