answer text
We are deeply concerned that Bangladesh and Burma have announced that they plan to begin repatriation of the Rohingya to Burma on November 15. We have stated publicly that we agree with the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) that the conditions for safe and dignified returns do not yet exist. The access required for necessary independent monitoring by UN agencies is also not in place.

Minister Field has raised our concerns with the Bangladesh Foreign Minister and Burmese Minister for International Cooperation Kyaw Tin on 1 November. He stressed the UK's assessment that conditions in Rakhine State were not currently conducive to refugee returns. We will continue to make representations to the governments of both Bangladesh and Burma not to commence returns while conditions in northern Rakhine remain as they are.
more like this

DFID funds the UNFPA and UNHCR who have local implementing partners, such as Brac and Mukti, who provide access to sexual and reproductive health care and support for survivors of gender-based violence for over 200,000 refugees. answer text
I welcome the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Burmese Government and UN agencies, which recognises that UNHCR should be the lead international agency on refugee returns. It indicates a greater willingness from the Burmese Government to engage with the international community on the Rohingya crisis. However, swift implementation will be key.

The UK is continuing to push for access for the UN and others at the scale required to provide humanitarian and development support to all communities. We stand ready to do more once access allows, including exploring options to support the Government to make tangible progress, notably in the education sector. We will continue to look at how we can support creating the right conditions on the ground for credible returns up to international standards. We are also supporting partners who are assisting victims and building evidence, including on sexual violence crimes.
more like this

answer text
The UK is a leading donor to the humanitarian effort in Bangladesh, having committed £129m to help since last August. Our help has ensured 391,000 children under the age of seven have been vaccinated, 450,000 people have benefited from support to make their shelters more resistant to heavy rain, and our aid will ensure 250,000 people will continue to have access to safe water through the rainy season. We are supporting 30 ‘child friendly spaces’ to support children with protective services and psychosocial and psychological support, and 19 women’s centres will offer a safe space, psychosocial support and activities to women and girls. The Secretary of State issued a press release outlining our latest £70m support to the Rohingya on 7th May, which will be focussed on ensuring the camps are prepared for rains and flooding. I spoke at a Westminster Hall Debate on the issue the following day.
more like this
