In October 2014 DFID last received an update on progress from GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), who have been developing the RTS,S vaccine with the non-profit PATH Malaria Vaccine Initiative (MVI). This has contributed to averting 3.3 million malaria deaths between 2001 and 2012 and the shrinking of the global malaria footprint. Since 2012, DFID has delivered a six-fold increase in the number of humanitarian assistance programmes that include prevention or response to violence against women and girls. This helped 400,000 people access safe water and sanitation; supplied 150,000 people with food packages; and supported over 6,000 families to rebuild their livelihoods.</p><p> </p><p><br> Since the beginning of the current military operation an additional one million people have registered as displaced. In response to this the UK has provided a further £4.7 million. This will support some of the most vulnerable people who have been identified by our partners in a joint assessment run by the UN and the Government of Pakistan.
