The worst affected provinces are Kandahar, Helmand, Herat and Farah. More than 40 people are known to have died, and hundreds of others have been injured or are missing. According to the Government, more than 7,100 houses have been damaged and over 5,600 destroyed across Afghanistan. More than 50,000 people require humanitarian assistance.</p><p> </p><p>At present, the Afghan Government are leading efforts to respond. International organisations are helping them to assess the situation on the ground and respond directly with food, non-food items, hygiene kits, winter clothes and emergency shelter (tents). DFID is closely monitoring what is happening and we stand ready to assist as and when our support is requested or required.</p><p> </p><p>The UK is at the forefront of the international humanitarian response in Afghanistan. As a result of UK funding, up to two million Afghans received lifesaving assistance in 2018, including hundreds of thousands of Afghans affected by one of the worst droughts the country has ever faced. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 06/03/2019 answer text <p>The UK is concerned about the rising number of measles cases globally and is supporting efforts to reduce these in low income countries through investment in Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. The UK is the largest donor to Gavi, which has helped immunise over 700 million children since 2000 and prevented more than 10 million deaths from vaccine preventable diseases.</p><p> </p><p>Gavi is helping to reduce the number of measles cases by supporting routine immunisation. This is supplemented by rapid vaccination campaigns to stem outbreaks when they occur and limit the spread. The UK has shown ongoing leadership in responding to the crisis, and by the end of the 2018/2019 financial year will have contributed £570 million in support to Yemen since the conflict began in 2015.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>On 24 February 2019, the Prime Minister announced that the UK will provide an additional £200 million for the Yemen response in the next financial year (2019/2020). Our Embassies in the region meet regularly with neighbouring governments to discuss the crisis and the level of humanitarian aid required to meet growing needs.</p><p> </p><p>The Foreign Secretary spoke to the President of the National Assembly of Venezuela, Juan Guaidó, on 30 January. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 30/01/2019 answer text <p>In the last financial year alone, our support meant that over 4.1 million people within Syria were provided with clean drinking water. In the Northwest, for example, DFID’s support is providing access to water and sanitation services for highly vulnerable Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), including one programme that is using trucks to deliver water services, reaching over 67,000 people in need across over 100 IDP sites in the area. Elsewhere, DFID has funded UNICEF to provide life-saving water to the approximately 40,000 people in Rukban IDP camp.</p><p> </p><p>We are also committed to supporting neighbouring countries who are hosting Syrian refugees. For example, since the start of the crisis, the UK has provided funding to support sustainable access to clean water or sanitation facilities in Lebanon for over 1.1 million people in need from Syria and Lebanon. In Jordan, the UK is providing £14.1 million to UNICEF between December 2016 and November 2019 to provide refugees with access to clean drinking water, through installing water systems in refugee camps and delivering water to vulnerable households in host communities. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 21/01/2019 answer text <p>The UK continues to support the most vulnerable Syrian refugees across the region, including with health and wellbeing needs, spending over £1.2 billion since 2012 to support the over 5.6 million refugees across Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq.</p><p> </p><p>DFID is providing support to those refugees worst affected by adverse weather conditions this winter, including cash transfers to over 50,000 of the most vulnerable Syrian refugees across Lebanon. This has supported refugees in areas most affected by winter storms, allowing them to prepare for adverse weather conditions by buying fuel, warm clothing and insulation for their homes. DFID is also the leading contributor to the Start Fund, which has disbursed over £300,000 so far in response to the flooding in Lebanon this winter. Since 2017, our partnership with Save the Children in Lebanon has included improvements to 67 flood-prone refugee settlements, mitigating the impact of the recent storm in many sites. This is a defining development challenge for DFID’s partner countries and is at the heart of building global prosperity and stability that is in the UK’s national interest.</p><p> </p><p>DFID’s 2017 Economic Development Strategy expressly commits us to deliver more and better jobs – seeking to progressively improve job quality and raise standards as countries develop. Around 128,000 internally displaced people remain in crowded camps in central Rakhine since 2012. Although an estimated 250,000-300,000 Rohingya remain in northern Rakhine it is unclear how many are displaced due to lack of humanitarian access. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 06/12/2018 answer text <p>The UK has been at the forefront of the humanitarian response in Yemen and focusses on addressing the critical needs of people inside the country, including those who have been internally displaced by the conflict. In April this year, the UK announced £170 million in response to the humanitarian crisis in Yemen for this Financial Year.</p><p> </p><p>There are far fewer Yemenis displaced across borders than other situations in the world due to geography and poverty. There is for example a refugee settlement in Djibouti of around 2,000 people - a number which has remained stable in recent years.</p><p> </p><p>The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) estimate that up to three million people have been internally displaced since the conflict began in Yemen in 2015, with over 450,000 displaced from and within Hodeidah governorate between 1 June and 23 October 2018.</p><p> </p><p>The UK is providing £36m to IOM and UNHCR to help over 21,000 displaced people buy vital food through cash transfers, and enabling access to clean water, primary health care and support in response to sexual violence. DFID is also at the forefront of the humanitarian response in the region, working to address humanitarian needs in the region, and to ensure that all vulnerable people, including those affected by Daesh in Syria and Iraq receive help.</p><p>In Northeast Syria, including areas previously occupied by Daesh, we provide support to address individual’s basic needs, including restocking health facilities with medicines and equipment, non-food items, and water and sanitation support.
