This is, in our view, critical to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in the most vulnerable countries. DFID’s crises response is needs-based, and therefore particularly sensitive to women and girls, as one of the groups most impacted in crises. DFID also continuously adapts its programmes to prepare for, and build resilience to, crises. This includes a focus on supporting jobs and livelihoods for the most vulnerable groups including women and girls. In Nepal, we support disaster risk reduction efforts that provide work opportunities to the most vulnerable and ensure that women can access these through targeted recruitment campaigns. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 18/02/2019 answer text <p>The ongoing conflict in Syria has caused immense human suffering, displacing over 6 million people within Syria. The UK has committed £2.71 billion in response to the Syria Crisis since 2012.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>We monitor displacement and maintain close contact with other donors and humanitarian partners to ensure our programmes are supporting those most in need, including internally displaced people (IDPs). In September 2018, DFID provided an additional £32 million for Northern Syria to provide essential services such as shelter and clean water for those in need, including the up to 1.4 million IDPs in Idlib. We also fund the life-saving provision of water for thousands of IDPs at the Rukban camp and are supporting efforts to help those affected by hazardous winter conditions at Al-Hol camp. But our efforts are hampered by access problems caused by Assad’s regime and violence on the ground.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>In Iraq, DFID has committed £252.5 million in humanitarian support since 2014. This includes an additional £10 million which I announced during my visit to Baghdad last month. UK aid has been a lifeline for IDPs and others in need. The UK has provided healthcare services to 4.1 million people, sanitation and safe water to 2.1 million people and food to over 400,000 people.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The UK has also committed over £47 million to directly improve conditions in areas liberated from Daesh in Iraq, including an additional £6.9 million which I announced during my recent visit. UK aid is having real impact. For example, it enabled the repair of a water treatment plant serving 300,000 people in East Mosul, the rehabilitation of 2,000 homes in West Mosul and the reopening of 38 schools across Northern Iraq. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 14/02/2019 answer text <p>The Venezuelan health system has collapsed, formerly controlled preventable diseases need to be controlled and this is leading to further outbreaks within neighbouring countries.</p><p> </p><p>The UK has stepped up and has announced an emergency aid package of £6.5 million to respond to the most severe health needs by providing immunisations against deadly diseases, supporting emergency rooms and ensuring that people who are fleeing their homes have access to crucial support, including through the provision of mobile health clinics.</p><p> </p><p>Additionally, DFID has deployed two humanitarian advisors to the region and funded seven additional roles within UN agencies to help respond to the crisis. We provide significant core funding to the UN, Red Cross movement and other international actors to alleviate the worsening humanitarian situation. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 14/02/2019 answer text <p>The UK supports garment factory workers, more than 70% of whom are female, by improving building safety and working conditions, empowering workers, and urging buyers to take responsibility for their supply chains.</p><p> </p><p>DFID provided £7.4m (2013-2017) to the International Labour Organisation (ILO) to improve factory conditions post Rana Plaza collapse. The subsequent ‘Better Jobs in Bangladesh’ programme provides £6.6m (2017-2023) for sustainable inspection and remediation. The UK is also providing £22.43m (2014-2021) to enhance the provision of skills training in the RMG and Construction sectors.
