answer text <p>To comply with EU requirements, partridges and pheasants imported into the UK have to be accompanied by an EU health certificate. There is a specific health certificate for game birds intended for restocking. Information on imported consignments of live birds is held on the European Commission’s TRACES system. However, we only have limited options to interrogate this information. Although we have statistics on the total number of pheasants and partridges that have been imported in to the UK, it is not possible to determine how many birds were imported using the re-stocking health certificate.</p><p> </p><table><tbody><tr><td> </td><td colspan="2"> </td><td> </td><td> </td><td colspan="2"><p> </p></td></tr><tr><td rowspan="2"><p> </p></td><td colspan="2"><p>Pheasants (Phasianus)</p></td><td colspan="4"><p>Partridges (Perdix)</p></td></tr><tr><td><p>European Union</p></td><td><p>Third Countries</p></td><td colspan="3"><p>European Union</p></td><td><p>Third Countries</p></td></tr><tr><td><p>2010</p></td><td><p>367,322</p></td><td><p>0</p></td><td colspan="3"><p>19,146</p></td><td><p>0</p></td></tr><tr><td><p>2011</p></td><td><p>4,287,561</p></td><td><p>0</p></td><td colspan="3"><p>268,159</p></td><td><p>0</p></td></tr><tr><td><p>2012</p></td><td><p>3,654,485</p></td><td><p>0</p></td><td colspan="3"><p>162,036</p></td><td><p>0</p></td></tr><tr><td><p>2013</p></td><td><p>5,057,045</p></td><td><p>12,600</p></td><td colspan="3"><p>223,541</p></td><td><p>0</p></td></tr><tr><td><p>2014</p></td><td><p>6,333,914</p></td><td><p>21,840</p></td><td colspan="3"><p>272,675</p></td><td><p>0</p></td></tr><tr><td> </td><td> </td><td> </td><td> </td><td> </td><td> </td><td> </td></tr></tbody></table><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Imported pheasants and partridges may also be included in mixed consignments of poultry. On this basis, a formal consultation is not envisaged. However, Defra officials are engaging with a range of stakeholders in the interests of transparency and to set out our approach. The EU Commission has proposed a more substantial overhaul of the scheme which, if agreed, would take effect from 2016 onwards. This is delivering innovations from the laboratory to the farm and includes investment in two projects in the poultry sector. We are also continuing to work with industry on access to foreign markets. There was significant growth in our non-EU exports of poultry in 2014 and we have seen an increase of 16% in total poultry meat exports since 2010. This is a strong vindication of the government-industry partnership approach in place.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>My Rt. Hon.
