answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 26/04/2022 answer text <p>The Government published an impact assessment for the Ivory Act when the legislation was introduced as a Bill in May 2018.</p><p> </p><p>The registration fee for items that fall under a section 10 exemption, which includes pre-1918 portrait miniatures that have a surface area of no more than 320cm<sup>2</sup>, is £20 per registration. Groups of three to twenty portrait miniatures that meet the requirement of the exemption and are being dealt as part of a single transaction may be registered together for a fee of £50. The fees have been set at a manageable level to encourage compliance and meet the principle that costs should not be borne by the taxpayer. We intend to ban elephant ivory as it is the most commonly-found and traded form of ivory. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 16/03/2018 answer text <p>The UK is leading global efforts to close legal domestic ivory markets that can contribute to poaching and the illegal wildlife trade. The UK does not authorise the sale of, or other commercial trade in, raw elephant ivory of any age. We have recently consulted on proposals to go further and ban all ivory sales in the UK subject to limited exemptions. At the EU Environment Council meeting on 5 March the UK, alongside France, called on the EU and its Member States to ban, as a first step, the commercial trade in raw ivory within the EU as soon as possible.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>The UK supports the European Commission’s guidance, issued in May 2017, which recommended that, as of 1 July 2017, EU Member States should suspend issuing re-export certificates for raw ivory from the EU except in exceptional cases. This is in line with UK policy which has been in place over a decade.</p><p> </p><p>The European Commission has recently consulted to gather information and views on ivory trade within the EU to help inform what further steps the EU might take regarding ivory trade. These proposals will put the UK front and centre of efforts to end the trade in ivory. Through the consultation we sought views and evidence on the effect of the proposed ban, including on elephant conservation and the natural environment.</p><p> </p><p>The Government has proposed a ban on the sale of ivory, as trade in ivory continues to incentivise poaching by creating a demand for new ivory and providing a way to launder recently poached ivory.</p><p> </p><p>The consultation ended on 29 December 2017 and responses are currently being analysed, including any evidence provided on this issue.
