<p>As part of over £400 million invested to support access to remote education and
online social care, over 1.3 million laptops and tablets are being secured for disadvantaged
children and young people. This figure includes over 700,000 that have already been
delivered since the start of the COVID-19 outbreak.</p><p> </p><p>We have been clear
throughout the COVID-19 outbreak that schools and colleges must continue to pay regard
to the statutory guidance Keeping Children Safe in Education when carrying out their
duties to safeguard and promote the welfare of children, both online and offline.
Since 1 September 2020, this guidance has included additional information to help
schools and colleges keep children safe online. It includes, for the first time, resources
on safe remote education, virtual lessons and live streaming and information on online
safety for parents and carers. Relevant training and guidance from the EdTech Demonstrator
Network are also available for all schools.</p><p>In addition, the Department has
provided guidance on safeguarding and remote education to support schools and colleges
plan lessons safely, including helpful resources for parents and carers on online
