answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 25/03/2021 answer text <p>The Government recognises the important role group education activities play in providing enrichment opportunities which support the education of electively home educated children and young people. We also acknowledge the benefits they provide to the development of social skills and attitudes which promote their wellbeing and enhance their physical and mental health.</p><p>Any group activities undertaken by home educators should be carried out in line with government guidance.</p><p>From 8 March 2021, out-of-school settings (including tuition providers) have been able to open to all children for certain essential purposes. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 10/03/2021 answer text <p>It is the Government’s aim to ensure all young people receive a world-class education which allows them to reach their potential and live a fulfilled life. In turn, we support the right of parents to educate children at home when they wish to do so and can provide a suitable education.</p><p>On 25 February, the Department announced proposals to fairly award all pupils a grade that supports them to progress to the next stage of their lives. These proposals include a clear and accessible route for private candidates to work with a centre to receive a grade this year, at the same time as other candidates. Exam boards will provide centres with clear guidance on the evidence they can use to assess a private candidate. They will though need to take account of the Department’s, ‘Elective home education; guidance for parents’, which is published here: <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/elective-home-education" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/elective-home-education</a>.</p><p>Where a child who is home educated takes part in a group activity at the home of others who have chosen to home educate, the host should, as far as possible, follow the published guidance and also the guidance on working safely during coronavirus in other people’s homes which can be viewed here: <a href="https://www.gov.uk/guidance/working-safely-during-coronavirus-covid-19/homes" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/guidance/working-safely-during-coronavirus-covid-19/homes</a>.</p><p>This applies only to group activities which have the principal purpose of education and should not be used to justify purely social activities beyond those recommended under the government’s general guidance on social distancing.</p><p>Multiple groups of 15 plus staff can use the same shared space, if that is necessary, with distancing between the groups. Where this is the case the other protective measures, within the guidance for providers, will be even more important to minimise the risk of infection and transmission of the virus. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 23/09/2020 answer text <p>The Department does not collect statistics on the number of children in home education.</p><p>In relation to the COVID-19 outbreak, the Department is working closely with local authorities to encourage a return to full attendance in school and is monitoring the situation. Initial conversations with local authorities indicate that the majority have noticed an increase in enquiries from parents about home education. We know that the COVID-19 outbreak is likely to affect the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people, including in the longer term.</p><p>We have been working with health partners such as Public Health England and Health Education England to provide resources and guidance to support and promote the mental health of children and young people during the COVID-19 outbreak. We have signposted resources on supporting and promoting mental wellbeing in the list of resources to help children who are learning at home. The government has also provided additional funding to mental health charities to adapt, expand and reach out to those children who are most vulnerable. Ofqual has asked organisations that represent further education providers to consider steps that they could take when making admissions decisions this summer for any private candidates who do not receive a grade. We understand that institutions will consider a range of other evidence and information for these students to allow them to progress wherever possible. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 21/07/2020 answer text <p>Not all external candidates will be able to be awarded a calculated grade this summer because some will not have been in a position to provide sufficient evidence to enable their exam centre to include them in their centre assessment grades and rankings. The Department has therefore announced that there will be an opportunity for these and other students to sit exams in the autumn. Following Ofqual’s consultation on this autumn series, it has been confirmed that students will be able to sit exams in all subjects at A, AS level and GCSE.</p><p>Ofqual has also asked university and college representatives associations to consider the steps that universities and colleges could take when making admissions decisions this summer for any external candidates who do not receive a grade.
