answer text
The Transatlantic Trade and Investment partnership (TTIP) and the NHS have been discussed with the Scottish Government at official and Ministerial level.

Both the European Commission and US negotiators have explicitly ruled out public services from the scope of any market liberalisation in TTIP, and it has therefore not been necessary to discuss any exclusions related to specific public services. The Scottish Government’s ability to determine how publically funded health services in Scotland are provided will not be affected. It will be completely up to the Scottish Government to take decisions on which providers deliver health care services in the best interests of their patients.

more like this

answer text
The Government has made sure that there are preference services in place for anyone who does not want to receive unsolicited mail.

There are currently two ‘opt out’ services run by the Direct Marketing Association (DMA): the Mailing Preference Service (MPS) will stop addressed mail and the “Your Choice” preference service will stop unaddressed mailings. More information about these schemes can be found on the MPS website:

http://www.mpsonline.org.uk/www.mpsonline.org.uk or by telephoning 0845 703 4599 (MPS) or 020 7291 3300 (Your Choice). These are separate opt-outs as some people may want to stop one or other type of mailing rather than both.

Royal Mail also runs its own door-to-door ‘opt out’ service, though this will only stop those unaddressed mailings delivered by Royal Mail, around a quarter of all such mail. More information about Royal Mail’s service can be found on its website (www.royalmail.com) or by phoning 01865 796964.

By registering with all three services, consumers can stop the vast majority of unsolicited mail being received. Registration is free.

To stop advertising mail from those companies with which there is some kind of direct relationship (for example, supermarkets or department stores, where the customer has a loyalty card and so on), consumers will need to contact those companies directly and ask for their personal details to be removed from direct mailing lists.

answer text
There is no threat to the UK’s National Health Service from TTIP. This was confirmed again by the European Commission’s chief negotiator Ignacio Garcia Bercero at a meeting organised to the All Party Parliamentary Group on TTIP this week.

The chief negotiator outlined that EU public services are automatically excluded from all EU trade in service market liberalisation agreements. Publicly funded health services are specifically excluded. Member states decide how to deliver their public services and can change the delivery model at any time. TTIP will not change the fact that it is up to UK Government alone to decide how UK public services, including the NHS, are run.

more like this

We are taking a number of steps, including promoting project bank accounts, through Government procurement. More widely, the Industrial Strategy for Construction committed to developing a construction supply chain payment charter, which was published on 22 April. The Charter sets out 11 “Fair Payment Commitments” including a commitment to reduce payment terms to a supply chain to 30 days from January 2018. The Leadership Council will encourage construction businesses from across the whole supply chain to comply with it.

more like this
