Its remit covers exploring ways to promote awareness of the Code.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The Government and the ICM now plan to develop proposals to ensure that signatories better adhere to the Prompt Payment Code’s principles in the coming months.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>In addition, we are working to improve the information available to small and medium sized businesses to help them identify which customers are good payers and offer the terms that fit best with their business model. Through the Small Business, Enterprise and Employment Bill we will take a delegated power to introduce a prompt payment reporting requirement through secondary legislation. We are taking a number of steps, including promoting project bank accounts, through Government procurement. More widely, the Industrial Strategy for Construction committed to developing a construction supply chain payment charter, which was published on 22 April. The Charter sets out 11 “Fair Payment Commitments” including a commitment to reduce payment terms to a supply chain to 30 days from January 2018. As expected, negotiations were largely focused on regulatory issues. Discussions also covered energy, intellectual property, small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) and services.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>There was good technical progress, particularly on regulatory coherence, for example in the automotive and pharmaceutical sectors. To date more than 200 organisations have pledged action to the campaign to boost the role of women in STEM fields. A publicity drive to encourage young people, especially girls, aged 14 to 16 to take STEM subjects, will launch in November 2014.</p><p>We fund the Royal Society and Royal Academy of Engineering to run a joint STEM Diversity Programme to understand and address issues of diversity, including gender, in the STEM workforce. These rules allow tribunals to identify weak or vexatious claims at an early stage through an initial sift and to manage them effectively through measures such as deposit orders.
