answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 11/09/2017 answer text <p>The UK has a strong history of protecting consumer rights, and this will continue after we leave the EU.</p><p> </p><p>UK consumer protections that are based on EU law will be retained through the EU Withdrawal Bill. This means that when buying from traders based in the UK British consumers will be able to rely on the same rights they have now.</p><p> </p><p>The way consumer protections apply internationally in future (for example when purchasing goods online from an EU trader) is a matter for negotiations. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 07/09/2017 answer text <p>National Trading Standards receive £13.24 million per year from BEIS to prioritise and coordinate national and cross-local authority boundary enforcement in England and Wales, including action to stop the sale of counterfeit electrical goods.</p><p> </p><p>National Trading Standards ‘Operation Jasper’ resulted in the seizure of over £1m in counterfeit goods including luxury brands, dangerous electrical equipment and unsafe cosmetic products in 2016. My department has supported and promoted various initiatives to promote gender diversity on boards and across the public sector. These include:</p><p> </p><ul><li><p>the Lord Davies Review, which established a business-led voluntary approach and has seen the proportion of women on FTSE 350 boards increase from 9.5% in 2011 to 24.4% in September 2017;</p></li><li><p>the subsequent Hampton-Alexander Review, which has set a target of 33% women on FTSE 350 boards by 2020;</p></li><li><p>in conjunction with UK Government Investments, actively supporting the Future Boards Scheme, a business-led initiative to help talented, senior women get board-level development opportunities and gain the experience they need to successfully apply for board positions;</p></li></ul><ul><li><p>a new Business Diversity and Inclusion Group to improve the coordination of diversity initiatives and provide a clear and coherent message on what is expected of the business community; as well as</p></li><li><p>work promoting boardroom diversity in the public and third sectors.</p><p> </p></li></ul><p>All of these various initiatives will contribute to our continued efforts to ensure gender-balanced representation and that boardrooms reflect their workforces and wider society.</p><p><strong> </strong></p> answering member constituency Stourbridge answering member printed Margot James question first answered 11/09/2017 12:58:10 answering member 4115 label Biography information for Margot James

People must be free to gather together and to demonstrate their views, provided that they do so within the law.</p><p> </p><p>But protestors' rights must be balanced with the rights of others to go about their business without fear of intimidation or serious disruption to the community. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 11/09/2017 answer text <p>I made an oral statement to the House on 11 July 2017 to announce the publication of the Matthew Taylor Review of Modern Working Practices.</p><p> </p><p>The Review looked at ways to ensure that the regulatory framework surrounding employment, and the support Government provides to businesses and workers, was keeping pace with changes in the labour market and the economy.</p><p> </p><p>The report is comprehensive and detailed and will require detailed, careful thought and further consultation. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 07/09/2017 answer text <p>There are no are plans to introduce a new duty on energy companies to set out a timetable to reduce the number of households paying for their energy by prepayment meter.</p><p>While data published by Ofgem in its Domestic Suppliers’ Social Obligations annual reports showed prepayment meters have historically been installed to repay debt, the latest report published last year, showed that in 2015 there was evidence of increasing consumer demand for prepayment meters.</p><p>This demand appears to be driven by smart meters operating in pay-as-you-go mode, which are transforming consumer experience of pre-payment metering. Topping up a smart meter in pay-as-you-go mode is as easy as topping up a mobile phone, with no need to access the meter. Being able to see an account balance on an easily accessible In Home Display reduces the risk of pre-payment customers accidently self-disconnecting from their energy supply when they run out of credit.
