answer text <p>The Government recognises the critical role that post offices play in communities and for small businesses across the UK. This is why the Government committed to safeguard the post office network and protect existing rural services. The overall number of post offices across the UK remains at its most stable in decades with over 11,500 branches thanks to significant Government investment of over £2 billion since 2010.</p><p> </p><p>While the Government sets the strategic direction for the Post Office, it allows the company the commercial freedom to deliver this strategy as an independent business. Hosting or franchising of Post Office branches an operational matter for Post Office Limited. I have therefore asked Paula Vennells, the Group Chief Executive of Post Office Limited, to write to the hon Member on this matter. A copy of her reply will be placed in the Libraries of the House.</p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p>On the 4 June 2018, my rt. hon. the Secretary of State confirmed to Parliament that the Government has entered negotiations with Hitachi in relation to Horizon’s proposed Wylfa Newydd project, based on Anglesey in North Wales. The negotiations with Hitachi on agreeing a deal that provides value for money for consumers and taxpayers are ongoing. The Secretary of State has regular discussions with Hitachi, including during his visit to Japan in November. The Secretary of State will update the House on the status of negotiations at the appropriate point, in line with his commitment in June.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Our Industrial Strategy sets out a long-term plan to boost the productivity and earning power of people throughout the UK. To support this, we have a network of 38 Growth Hubs across the UK. The D2N2 Growth Hub, which serves the Nottinghamshire area is led and governed by the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP).</p><p> </p><p>D2N2 Growth Hub provides a local single point of contact for all businesses, no matter their size or sector, to access business advice from across the public and private sectors, at a local and national level. In October 2018, the D2N2 LEP self-reported that the D2N2 Growth Hub has supported 6,770 businesses and helped 1,231 individuals start a business since its launch in 2014, of those individuals 281 were from Nottinghamshire and 350 from Nottingham City.</p><p> </p><p>The Government-owned British Business Bank offers start-up loans to entrepreneurs wishing to start a business. From launch of the programme in 2012 to 30 September 2018, a total of 361 start-up loans with a value of £2 million were advanced to businesses in</p><p>Nottingham City. The equivalent figures for Nottinghamshire are 457 loans with a value of £3.5 million.</p>

answer text <p>The Department regularly assesses comparative levels of R&amp;D expenditure in the UK and EU member states.</p><p> </p><p>The latest ONS data estimates that overall gross R&amp;D expenditure in the UK was £33.1bn in 2016, which was 1.7% of GDP in that year. 2017 data is due to be released in March 2019. The latest OECD international comparison of R&amp;D expenditure ranked the UK 10th among EU nations in 2016. answer text <p>Under the General Product Safety Regulations 2005 any product that is intended for or likely to be used by consumers, including where the product was originally intended for professional use, must be safe before it can be placed on to the market.</p><p> </p><p>Under the Consumer Protection Act 1987 producers and importers are responsible for any damage caused by an unsafe product. This will apply to any noticeboards which are for sale to businesses or public bodies, for use at work. Products used in the workplace by workers are also subject to health and safety legislation.</p><p> </p><p>There are no plans to legislate to require mandatory information on compliance with specific standards to be provided by manufacturers of noticeboards.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Government asks the Low Pay Commission (LPC) to recommend the Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage such that it increases pay of the lowest paid apprentices without damaging their employment prospects.</p><p> </p><p>In April 2019, the Apprentice National Minimum Wage will increase to £3.90 an hour, from £3.70. This increase, of 5.4%, will be the largest across all the minimum wage rates rises in 2019.</p><p> </p><p>The LPC are currently conducting a review of the minimum wage youth rates and the apprenticeship rate structure. They are due to provide advice on this matter to Government in Spring 2019.</p> more like this
