answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 05/03/2018 answer text <p>The Northern Powerhouse will support delivery of our Industrial Strategy boosting growth across the North including the creation of jobs in the North West ensuring an economy that works for everyone.</p><p>We are helping small businesses grow through access to advice on GOV.UK and the Business Support Helpline. We have already invested £12 million in the 38 Growth Hubs in each of the Local Enterprise Partnership areas providing tailored advice to businesses across England. We have announced we will provide a further £24m to continue Growth Hubs for the next 2 years. The Liverpool City Region Growth Hub, which covers St Helens South and Whiston constituency, has supported over 5, 800 businesses and helped 1,500 individuals to start a business.</p><p>In February 2017, we launched the £400 million Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund to give small businesses in the North access to finance to help them start-up and grow. 74 investments or loans have been made in the North West totalling over £14m. Four investments have been made in the hon Member's constituency, totalling £270, 000.</p><p>The Regional Growth Fund was established to support job creation and economic growth. £1.59m has been allocated to the hon Member's constituency creating or safeguarding 228 jobs. Over £504 million has been allocated to North West</p><p>In addition, we have invested over £1.5 billion through the Local Growth Fund in North West projects to boost local economies. We will invest £332m in Liverpool City Region Local Enterprise Partnership area creating 15,400 jobs. Friend the Secretary of State has established the Carillion Taskforce, to advise on the impact on small businesses and employees affected by Carillion insolvency. The Taskforce’s attendees included representatives from leading business bodies, the construction trade sector, unions, banks and government. This has already led to useful collaborations, in particular in relation to ensuring firms and employees have access to support from Government and the banks.</p><p> </p><p>The nature of Carillion’s business was to sub-contract significant proportions of its work and a significant number of those sub-contractors have sub-contracted further elements. The complexity of the contracting structure is such that it is not possible for the Official Receiver at this stage in the liquidation process to have a complete picture of companies and therefore projects affected across the UK. He is continuing to work through Carillion’s systems to identify all contracts. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 07/03/2018 answer text <p>The Government expects businesses to behave ethically as part of their social and environmental responsibility, and we encourage responsible business practices across policies and legislation. The welfare of workers is addressed in employment provisions such as the National Minimum and Living Wages, health and safety in the workplace, and regulation of employment agencies; whilst the Government’s Good Work Plan responded to the Matthew Taylor Review of Modern Working Practices to focus on improving the quality of jobs. The Government’s national action on business and human rights responds to the UN’s Guiding Principles, and it includes steps to address human rights implications of UK business activities both at home and overseas. As a result of the world-leading provisions in the Modern Slavery Act 2015, thousands of businesses have published transparency statements detailing how they are tackling modern slavery in their business and supply chains.
