The Government provided £14 million across 2013/14 and 2014/15 to support the costs of activities – at a local and national level – to maximise the number of people on the register. £2.5 million of this was allocated to a number of civil society and national organisations, which looked at increasing registration amongst particular groups. This included groups such as Mencap, British Youth Council and Operation Black Vote. The funding allocated to local authorities was shared across the country, with a formula in place to determine which areas should receive a larger share, based on evidence of under registration in particular areas.
