answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 23/05/2024 answer text <p>Alcohol or drug dependence is rare in young people under the age of 18 years old, although they may be drinking problematically. The most effective and sustainable approach to reducing alcohol and drug harms in young people is by giving them the best start in life, the best education possible, and keeping them safe, well, and happy.</p><p>Statutory guidance on relationships, sex, and health education requires all primary and secondary school pupils to be taught the key facts and risks of alcohol and drug use, as well as how to manage influences and pressure, and keep themselves healthy and safe. The Department has worked with the PSHE Association to develop the lesson plans on alcohol and is currently commissioning an update of the resources, to be published later this year. Current resources are available at the following link:</p><p><a href="https://pshe-association.org.uk/drugeducation" target="_blank">https://pshe-association.org.uk/drugeducation</a></p><p>Through the cross-Government Drug Strategy, the Department has allocated £532 million of additional funding through to 2024/25, to support improvements in alcohol and drug treatment, including facilitating 5,000 more young people into age-appropriate treatment by 2024/25. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 23/05/2024 answer text <p>Audiology services are locally commissioned, and responsibility for meeting the needs of non-hearing children lies with local National Health Service commissioners. Commissioning Services for People with Hearing Loss: A Framework for Clinical Commissioning Groups, was published in July 2016. This framework supports clinical commissioning groups, and now integrated care boards, to make informed decisions about what good value for the populations they serve would be, and to provide more consistent, high quality, integrated care. It also addresses inequalities in access and outcomes between hearing services. Additionally, in 2019, NHS England, with input from the National Deaf Children’s Society, produced a guide for commissioners and providers who support children and young people with hearing loss.</p><p>NHS England met with Auditory Verbal UK (AVUK) last year and discussed the need for more high-level research evidence for intervention, and to develop evaluations of impact. AVUK were also invited to join the Chief Scientific Officer’s Audiology stakeholder group. The Government is committed to improving outcomes and experiences for all children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities, including children with hearing loss, and we recognise the need to improve access to therapies generally. This has involved asking that suppliers expedite deliveries to boost supplies of these important medicines, and addressing regulatory issues to ensure continuity of supply. As a result of our ongoing activity and intensive work, some issues have been resolved. We expect the disruptions to the supply of Concerta XL tablets to be resolved in May 2024.</p><p>The Department held a roundtable with all suppliers of methylphenidate prolonged-release tablet suppliers, including Janssen, in April 2024, to discuss the challenges they are facing, what they are doing, and what needs to be done to address these issues.</p><p>We have worked closely with specialist clinicians during this time to develop management advice for the National Health Service. The guidance includes advice for ADHD service providers and specialists to offer rapid response to primary care teams seeking urgent advice for the management of patients. The Online Safety Act 2023 introduces significant new protections from online suicide content. Under the act, in-scope services will have to take robust action against illegal suicide content, including taking proactive action to prevent users from encountering content that amounts to an offence under the Suicide Act 1961, and rapidly remove illegal suicide content once they become aware of it. As part of this, the NIHR and the Medical Research Council have funded the world’s largest genome-wide association study of ME/CFS. This £3.2 million study, termed DecodeME, will analyse samples from 25,000 people with ME/CFS to search for genetic differences that may indicate underlying causes, or an increased risk of developing the condition. By helping us to understand ME/CFS better, this research has the potential to lead to new treatments for the condition.</p><p>Integrated care boards (ICBs) are responsible for commissioning specialist ME/CFS services that meet the needs of their population, subject to local prioritisation and funding. The process of commissioning services should take into account best practice guidance, such as the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence’s guidance on ME/CFS diagnosis and management, published in October 2021. In addition, in October 2023, the British Association of Clinicians in ME/CFS published the ME/CFS National Services Survey.
