answer text
Evan Gershkovich's arrest further demonstrates Russia's lack of media freedom, and the UK calls for his immediate release. Mr Gershkovich is a US national and we will continue to support the US, who lead on consular support to him, with efforts to secure his release. On 17 April, the Foreign Secretary criticised Mr Gershkovich's arrest and said it showed a 'complete disregard for media freedom'. The UK has co-signed several statements as part of the Media Freedom Coalition, most recently on World Press Freedom Day, condemning Mr Gershkovich's detention. We have also called for Mr Gershkovich's release at the UN General Assembly.
more like this

The first weekend of the Easter holidays saw higher than expected coach volumes travelling outbound via the port of Dover leading to longer processing times for border checks. New systems and processes to handle coaches were implemented at the Port for May half-term leading to minimal delays.

more like this

We are appalled by reports of the regime's increased detentions of Baha'is, as well as expropriation of land and destruction of homes of the Baha'i community. On 20 December 2022, the Prime Minister's Special Envoy for Freedom of Religion or Belief (FoRB), Fiona Bruce, expressed the UK's condemnation of Iran's imprisonment of Baha'i leaders. We raise FoRB and wider human rights issues with the regime at all appropriate opportunities, and we continue to work closely with our international partners to hold Iran to account for its dire human rights record.
more like this

answer text
Rheumatology services are all locally commissioned by integrated care boards who are best placed to make decisions according to local need. Current education and training initiatives for pharmacists support pharmacists to develop the skills and knowledge to delivery high quality clinical services to patients in all sectors. In addition, commissioned through NHS England, the Centre for Post Graduate Pharmacy Education offers a range of upskilling offers for pharmacy professionals including a musculoskeletal training programme. NHS England is funding 3,000 independent prescribing training places for pharmacists in England in 2023/24, and these are open to Pharmacists working in Rheumatology services.

The number of pharmacy training places annually is uncapped. In England, each year around 2,500 pharmacists enter training and the net increase in pharmacists practicing across all sectors has increased by around 1,400 per year since 2016.

The Government has committed to publishing the Long Term Workforce Plan shortly. This will include projections for the number of doctors, nurses and other professionals that will be needed, taking full account of improvements in retention and productivity. The plan will provide estimates of NHS workforce as a whole; however, it will not get into detail about condition-specific workforce, such as for rheumatology.

answer text
General practitioners are responsible for ensuring their own clinical knowledge, including for MSK and rheumatic conditions, remains up-to-date and for identifying learning needs as part of their continuing professional development. This activity should include taking account of new research and developments in guidance, such as that produced by National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, to ensure that they can continue to provide high quality care to all patients.

All United Kingdom registered doctors are expected to meet the professional standards set out in the Good Medical Practice (GMC). In 2012 the GMC introduced revalidation which supports doctors in regularly reflecting on how they can develop or improve their practice, gives patients confidence doctors are up to date with their practice and promotes improved quality of care by driving improvements in clinical governance.

We remain committed to growing and diversifying the general practice workforce, through the Additional Roles Reimbursement Scheme. Primary Care Networks (PCNs) and practices have recruited over 29,000 additional staff including first contact physiotherapists and occupational therapists, hitting the Government's target to recruit 26,000 a year ahead of the March 2024 target. These practitioners can help with the diagnosis, treatment and management MSK and rheumatic conditions.
