We will continue to work closely with businesses to ensure processes are secure, accessible and employers understand their obligations and responsibilities concerning right to work checks and use of the ECS.</p>

The Home Office is taking steps to be more transparent to ensure that the department is as open as possible to all types of scrutiny, both internal and external. <del class="ministerial">This requires a fundamental cultural shift in our attitude to people with different views on policy and those who make a complaint when something goes wrong.</del></p><p>We will keep the Home Affairs Select Committee updated on the progress of all the Wendy Williams recommendations.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Home Office’s priority is to deliver a safe and secure border and we will never compromise on this including during any period of Industrial Action. Border Force maintain 100% of the checks for all scheduled arriving passengers into the UK during periods of industrial action and this will be continued during any future periods of strike action.</p><p>Border Force’s robust contingency plans keep our citizens safe and our borders secure. Non-striking Border Force staff, with the full range of appropriate powers, are continuing to complete their vital roles, including stopping and detaining passengers where appropriate, supported by military personnel and civil servant volunteers.</p><p>Border Force has a national assurance framework that is designed to ensure adherence to policy and guidance and identify any inconsistency in practice or process across all operational areas.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Since April 2021, His Majesty’s Passport Office has advised people to allow up to 10 weeks when applying for their passport using the standard service in the UK.</p><p>Of the standard UK applications resulting in a printed passport in the week ending 15 January 2023, 99.2% had been processed within ten weeks. answer text <p>The UK Resettlement Scheme (UKRS) is a global scheme with a multi-year commitment to resettle vulnerable refugees in need of protection. The UKRS sits alongside the government’s other resettlement schemes, which include Community Sponsorship, the Mandate Scheme, and the Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme (ACRS).</p><p> </p><p>Under the UKRS, and Pathway 2 of the ACRS, refugees are assessed and referred by the UNHCR according to their criteria, which are based on at-risk people’s needs and vulnerabilities.</p> more like this

answer text <p>An Emergency Resettlement Mechanism will allow the Government to provide urgent protection in exceptional circumstances to refugees referred by UNHCR as being in need of rapid emergency resettlement.</p><p>Responding to the situation in Afghanistan, the UK military undertook the largest military evacuation since the Second World War, during which we evacuated c.15,000 individuals to the UK. Over 20,000 Afghans have been brought over to the UK since the fall of Kabul. This alongside the UK’s response to Putin’s illegal war in Ukraine, continues to impact on available local authority housing and support. As a result, the commencement of the pilot has been put on hold temporarily</p><p>The UK has a strong record of helping those most in need and the UK continues to welcome refugees and people in need of protection through our resettlement and relocation schemes.</p> more like this
