All regions and nations have an important role to play in the future prosperity
of the country. As such, the government is committed to levelling up opportunity across
the UK while also enhancing the UK’s existing strengths. This is why the Government
continues to demonstrate its commitment to London and the South East, for example
investing around £1.7 billion in 48 high-value projects through the Housing Infrastructure
Fund, building ten new hospitals, and investing over £120 million from the Transforming
Cities Fund in cities such as Southampton and Portsmouth. There are 5.9 million workforce
jobs in London, and 22,000 civil service roles will be relocated out of London and
the South East by 2030, as announced at Budget 2020.
