answer text <p>I have regular discussions with my Rt honourable Friend the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions on a range of issues.</p><p> </p><p>Whilst the Pension Credit GB caseload stands at around 1.6 million, the number of Pension Credit claims in Scotland stands at around 150,000 - an almost 10% reduction in the number of claims since May 2017.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Electoral Commission sets standards for and monitors the performance of Electoral Registration Officers (EROs). These standards have the objective of ensuring that all eligible people are able to participate in the electoral process.</p><p>The Commission provides guidance to EROs to support them in delivering their functions and meeting the performance standards. In developing this guidance to improve the accessibility of electoral registration services, the Commission works with a variety of disability organisations – including groups representing electors with sight loss and learning difficulties – to ensure its work reflects good practice.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Home Office ensures that asylum seekers, who would otherwise be destitute, are provided with accommodation and a weekly cash allowance.</p><p>This includes free, furnished accommodation, and we also cover utility costs and provide individuals with a cash allowance to cover other essential living needs. answer text <p>On 18 July the Home Secretary announced his intention to establish a police covenant demonstrating his recognition of the bravery and commitment of police officers.</p><p>The Home Office will work with policing partners and other government departments over the coming months to develop more detailed proposals. answer text <p>The NHS Long Term Plan takes a concerted and systematic approach to reducing health inequalities and addressing unwarranted variation in care. NHS England and NHS Improvement are leading the work through the Maternity Transformation Programme to support maternity services to provide high-quality maternity care for all women.</p><p>Targeted and enhanced continuity of carer can significantly improve outcomes for women from ethnic minorities. The NHS Long Term plan sets out that 75% of black women will receive continuity of carer from midwives by 2024.</p><p>The Department is also funding research to investigate the factors associated with the excess perinatal mortality experienced by black/black British and Asian/Asian British ethnic groups and identify the factors associated with the excess risk of maternal death for black and South Asian women.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Government is committed to continuing to raise literacy standards and ensuring all children can read fluently and with understanding.</p><p>Ofsted’s inspection framework, published in May 2019, puts a greater focus on how well schools are teaching their pupils to read: inspectors listen to children reading aloud, watch phonics classes and check how schools help weaker readers to improve.</p><p>In addition, the Department have launched a £26.3 million English Hubs Programme. The Department has appointed 34 primary schools across England as English Hubs, who are taking a leading role in supporting nearly 3000 schools to improve their teaching of reading through systematic synthetic phonics, early language development, and reading for pleasure.</p><p> </p><p>This network of schools will work to increase reading standards across the country and to improve educational outcomes for the most disadvantaged children, particularly in underperforming schools.</p> more like this

answer text <p>A new curriculum was introduced in 2014. Tests reflecting that curriculum were introduced in 2016. Since then the time allowed for the Key Stage 2 reading assessment has not changed. The test framework for the English reading test places a limit on the number of words that can be included in the texts and this limit has not been breached.</p><p>Assessments go through a rigorous test development process lasting three years. Thorough trialling of the materials, with the texts in the combinations they will appear in a final test, allows test developers to ensure the reading booklets are suitable and that the standard is maintained.</p> more like this
