answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 24/01/2019 answer text <p>While the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 provides protection for all wild birds and our most threatened animal species, there are provisions within the legislation to issue licences to permit prohibited activities for specific purposes, for example: preserving air safety or public health; preventing serious damage to livestock; and conserving wild birds.</p><p> </p><p>In determining any licence application Natural England takes account of the requirements of the legislation and the five policy tests set out by Defra. These suppliers hold information on the rate of remuneration of their staff, however our contracts with the suppliers require all staff to be paid the Living Wage as defined by the Living Wage Foundation, as a minimum.</p><p> </p><p>The Living Wage Foundation rates can be found at the Living Wage Foundation website (<a href="https://www.livingwage.org.uk/" target="_blank">https://www.livingwage.org.uk/</a>). A permit will only be issued if no detrimental impact on the survival of endangered species is demonstrated and the item has been obtained from a legal and sustainable hunting operation. This means imports of certain species from certain countries are currently prohibited because they are considered to be unsustainable.</p><p> </p><p>We are looking carefully at this issue and have previously commissioned research by Professor McDonald. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 21/01/2019 answer text <p>Border Inspection Posts (BIPs) are commercial ventures set up by ports and airports which are inspected and approved for operation by the relevant Competent Authority and the Commission. Any BIPs at ports with regular ferry services to the UK would be approved by the Competent Authority of that EU Member State, not the Secretary of State.</p><p>As explained in the Technical Notice on <em>“Importing animals and animal products if there’s no Brexit deal”, </em>consignments originating in the EU will not initially be required to enter the UK through a BIP.
