<p>Refugee status is conferred following a grant of asylum. An asylum seeker may only
become a refugee once asylum has been granted. Not all asylum seekers are deemed to
be refugees and not all refugees claim asylum.</p><p>The Home Office publishes data,
in its quarterly <em>Immigration Statistics</em> release, on the number of asylum
seekers granted refugee status, by sex (table as_05 Asylum, volume 2).</p><p>The latest
