However, following discussions with motoring organisations and industry, it was decided that there was not a compelling case for doing so.</p><p>There is no legal requirement for motorists to carry their licence with them. The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency recommends that driving licences are kept in a safe and secure place. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 15/05/2018 answer text <p>The British Road Safety Statement sets out the Government’s commitment to improve road safety and reduce the number of people killed or injured on the roads every year.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>All drivers and riders must be able to meet the required visual acuity and visual field standards, which includes being able to read a number plate from 20 metres. Drivers are also legally responsible for notifying the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) at any time of a change in their health or vision which may affect their ability to meet the appropriate standards.</p><p> </p><p>The government fully supports the NHS’s recommendation that adults should have their eyes tested every two years. The DVLA has changed its driving licence application forms to highlight the importance of having regular eyesight tests. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 14/05/2018 answer text <p>Drivers who have had a pacemaker implanted must notify the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA). This is to ensure that the DVLA can investigate the condition that led to the need for a pacemaker. Most drivers retain their licences where a pacemaker has been fitted and the causative condition is being effectively controlled.</p><p> </p><p>In cases where driving entitlement has been revoked after a pacemaker is fitted, the driver will need to apply for the return of their licence when the causative condition has been brought under control.</p><p> </p><p>The DVLA dealt with over 750,000 medical licensing cases in the last year, and aims to deal with all cases that require medical investigation as quickly as possible.</p> answering member constituency Hereford and South Herefordshire answering member printed Jesse Norman question first answered 14/05/2018 13:20:21 answering member 3991 label Biography information for Jesse Norman

question text	To ask Her Majesty's Government what assessment they have made of a report produced by the Hanseatic Transport Consultancy, on behalf of the European Rail Freight Association, which stated that the economic losses incurred by logistics companies, rail operators, infrastructure managers and customers totalled over £2 billion following the six week closure of the main North–South railway line in Rastatt in Germany; and what action they are taking to ensure the resilience of UK rail infrastructure to avoid similar closures and losses in the UK.

We look to the Office of Rail and Road (ORR), as the independent railway safety regulator, to ensure the industry is meeting its safety duties and that it responds appropriately to any new issues or risks which are identified. In response to the closure of the line at Rastatt, Network Rail is working with other European Infrastructure Managers to develop a joint handbook on international contingency management.</p><p> </p><p>Network Rail works to build the resilience of its railway infrastructure by maintaining assets to an appropriate standard. Asset renewal plans are agreed with ORR each Control Period and are targeted to improve asset reliability and resilience.
