Right to Buy gives tenants of all ages the opportunity to own their home. Since
the reinvigoration of Right to Buy increased maximum discounts to realistic levels
in 2012, over 80,000 tenants have been enabled to buy their homes.

In addition,
last October the Prime Minister announced an extra £2 billion funding for affordable
housing, including social rent homes, in addition to the £1.4 billion announced at
the Autumn Statement 2016. This has increased the Governments Affordable Housing Programme
2016-21 Budget to more than £9 billion, which will deliver many more affordable homes
by March 2021. The new funding will support councils and housing associations to build
more genuinely affordable homes in areas of acute affordability pressure where tenants,
including young people, are struggling the most with the costs of rent.
