This is on average over each plants lifetime on the Non-domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI). This has been assessed by looking at generation as a proportion of maximum capacity.</p><p> </p><p>This analysis only covers installations that have submitted meter readings to Ofgem and we do not have the data to assess this for a given day. In April 2016, we announced a range of measures to support the industry including new public procurement guidelines to help UK steel suppliers compete effectively with international suppliers, publishing details of upcoming steel requirements for national infrastructure projects, and setting up an approved list of steel producers to provide steel for government contracts. Following consultation, we concluded with industry agreement that a list of suppliers would not achieve the desired outcome of levelling the playing field.</p><p>We published a steel pipeline in December 2016 which shows how the Government plans to use three million tonnes of steel until 2020 on infrastructure projects such as High Speed 2 (HS2), the construction of Hinkley Point, and the maintenance and upgrading of the UK’s motorway network. Therefore, this response includes the amounts paid to the Behavioural Insights Team by the two former Departments: Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), and Energy and Climate Change (DECC).</p><p> </p><p>Since 2014, our best estimate of what BEIS, BIS and DECC paid the Behavioural Insights Team was a total of £3,665,802.84. Energy suppliers are responsible for installing smart meters and are required to comply with a number of regulations and other requirements that relate to the safety of installations and appliances. These include the Gas Safety (Installations and Use) Regulations (1998), the Meter Asset Managers’ Code of Practice (MAMCoP) and the Meter Operators Code of Practice Agreement (MOCOPA) which set out the roles, responsibilities and expectations of meter installers when safety issues are identified during meter installation visits.</p><p>The Government have also put in place additional requirements through the Smart Metering Installation Code of Practice (SMICoP) which require energy suppliers to ensure that installers are appropriately trained. Engineers fitting smart meters undergo extensive training and testing to achieve the level of skills and qualifications necessary.
