As I said during the Westminster Hall debate on the dog meat trade in South Korea on 12 September, high-profile global events such as the Olympic Games can be a catalyst for positive change. The Kim Young Ran Law, introduced earlier this year in South Korea and aimed at curbing excesses of hospitality and gift-giving, used the UK’s Bribery Act as a reference. This followed collaboration between the UK and the Korean authorities, including Korea’s Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission (ACRC). Future plans include the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Serious Fraud Office and Korea’s Supreme Prosecutor’s Office on enhancing cooperation. Most recently on 10 December the Foreign Secretary met his counterparts from like-minded countries on Syria in Paris. In these discussions many possible tactics and longer-terms solutions have been considered, including different ways of supporting the Syrian opposition. The opposition continues to hold territory in several areas of the country including the north around Idlib and the south around Dera’a. With support from Turkey, the opposition has made welcome progress in taking territory from Daesh in Northern Syria, clearing Daesh from the Turkish border. Members of religious minorities continue to face severe restrictions. The same is true for freedom of association. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 15/12/2016 answer text <p>We remain very concerned about appalling crimes being committed against religious minorities, as well as the majority Muslim population in Iraq and Syria. Minorities have suffered at the hands of Daesh in both Syria and Iraq. In Syria they have also suffered at the hands of the Asad regime, whose war against the Syrian people has killed over 400,000 Syrians. We are committed to defeating Daesh and bringing them to justice. We continue to work towards a sustainable political settlement in Syria, based on transition away from Asad. Protection of minorities is a key pillar of international agreements on transition in Syria and also of proposals by the Syrian Opposition. We are using our aid budget to alleviate the immediate humanitarian suffering of the most vulnerable people in the region, including minorities. Friend the Member for Uxbridge and South Ruislip (Boris Johnson) nor his officials had any interaction with the Serbian newspaper Danas about the visit to Serbia on 11 November 2016. The Foreign Secretary spent approximately 45 minutes at the bookstore for a roundtable on media freedom with a small number of journalists and editors. The Foreign Secretary issued a tweet following the roundtable, highlighting the need for strong independent media in any democracy. There will be no further public record of the discussions. The Serbian government offered the use of their protocol vehicles, free of charge, to transport the Foreign Secretary for the duration of the visit.
